Autumn Around the World

  • Traveler's Table 1011 South Fort Thomas Avenue Fort Thomas, Kentucky, 41075 United States (map)

FOUR WEEKENDS. FOUR COUNTRIES. FOUR TRADITIONS.

Autumn is a season of harvest and abundance, a time to give thanks, celebrate the gifts of the land, and gather around the table with family and friends.

Around the world, cultures have marked this season for generations with traditions that honor the harvest, remember those who came before us, and celebrate the simple joy of sharing a meal.

Throughout November, Traveler’s Table celebrates four of these traditions from Mexico, Italy, South Korea, and Germany, with comforting regional dishes, traditional beverages, and the stories that make them meaningful.

The foods that bring us together.

November 6–7 | Mexico

Día de Muertos: Food for Those We Remember

In Mexico, Día de Muertos brings families together to remember and honor loved ones who have passed. Traditional foods are prepared for family gatherings and placed on ofrendas, connecting generations through recipes, memories, and shared traditions.

Tamales de Mole

November 13–14 | Italy

Festa della Castagna: The Bread That Grew on Trees

For centuries, chestnuts sustained families in the mountains of Tuscany, providing nourishment when grain was scarce. Dried, ground into flour, roasted, or incorporated into traditional dishes, chestnuts became known as the bread of the mountains.

Today, autumn chestnut festivals celebrate this remarkable food and the generations who depended upon it.

Tuscan Roast Pork with Chestnuts

November 20–21 | South Korea

Chuseok: A Feast for Those Who Came Before

Chuseok is one of Korea’s most important holidays, a celebration of the autumn harvest and a time for families to gather, give thanks, and honor their ancestors.

Traditional holiday foods are prepared and shared, preserving family recipes and connecting generations through the table.

Galbi-jjim

November 27–28 | Germany

Erntedankfest: Giving Thanks for the Harvest

Germany’s traditional harvest thanksgiving celebrates the abundance of the season and the agricultural communities that have sustained generations.

Autumn also brings the return of hearty regional cooking, with roasted meats, seasonal vegetables, and comforting dishes prepared for family gatherings.
